The extendable island covers two needs with one piece: a work island most of the time, and a table when there are people to seat. The body stays where it is and the top extends, either sliding out over a support or unfolding on a folding frame.
The extension has to be planned at the drawing stage. The closed length, the extended length, the direction the top travels and the position of any sink or socket all affect each other, and the frame needs a clear run underneath.
